Understanding Your Mental Health Insurance Benefits:

Coverage for therapy services varies by insurance provider and individual benefit plan. We recommend contacting your insurance company directly to verify your mental health benefits.

Helpful questions to ask your insurance provider include:

  • Does my plan include outpatient mental health or psychotherapy benefits?
  • Do I have a deductible? If so, has it been met?
  • Is there a limit on the number of therapy sessions per year?
  • Is prior authorization or a referral from my primary care provider required?

Our office can also assist with benefit verification when scheduling your appointment.

Accepted Forms of Payment:

We accept the following forms of payment for counseling services:

  • Cash
  • Check
  • Health Savings Account (HSA) or Flex Spending Account (FSA) cards
  • All major credit cards

Secure payments can also be made directly through our website.

Cancellation Policy:

If you are unable to attend your scheduled therapy session, please provide at least 24 hours’ notice to avoid being charged the full session fee. Late cancellations and missed appointments will be billed at the full rate.

Additional Questions and Answers:

Who should I contact with questions about insurance, billing, or therapy payment?

For questions about insurance coverage, billing, or therapy payment, we recommend contacting our office directly. Our experienced administrative team regularly assists clients with verifying mental health benefits, understanding expected out-of-pocket costs, and reviewing payment options. We aim to make the financial side of therapy clear and straightforward so you can focus on your care—not the paperwork.

How much will therapy actually cost me out of pocket?

Your out-of-pocket cost for therapy depends on your specific insurance plan, deductible status, and mental health benefits. Some clients are responsible only for a copay or coinsurance, while others may pay the full session fee if they are self-pay or using out-of-network benefits. For out-of-network services, we provide a superbill that you can submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement. We are happy to verify your benefits in advance so you have a clear understanding of costs before your first appointment. Reduced-rate options may also be available in certain situations.

Is payment required at the time of service for therapy appointments?

Yes. Payment is typically due at the time of your therapy appointment, unless other arrangements have been made in advance. If you are using insurance, any applicable copay, coinsurance, deductible, or self-pay amount is collected according to your plan. Our team is happy to review your expected financial responsibility ahead of time so there are no surprises.

Is everything I say in therapy confidential?

Yes. Therapy is confidential, and protecting your privacy is a core part of ethical mental health care. Therapists are legally and professionally required to keep what you share private and do not disclose information without your written consent. There are limited exceptions required by law—such as concerns related to immediate safety, abuse or neglect, or court orders—which your therapist will review with you at the beginning of treatment. Our goal is to provide a safe, secure environment where you can speak openly and honestly.
